Marine Habitat Monitoring & Restoration – Offshore Abu Dhabi

Job description

Years of offshore industrial activity in the Arabian Gulf have left sensitive habitats near Das Island under increasing pressure. Coral structures, seagrass meadows, and fish populations are showing signs of decline, and regulatory authorities now require detailed monitoring and restoration planning before further energy developments proceed. The project calls for a dedicated team of environmental specialists who can combine technical survey skills with practical restoration strategies. Unlike standard baseline surveys, this initiative must go deeper — it involves creating a long-term ecological profile that will guide how offshore operators balance energy production with marine conservation.Work will include:
  • Conducting monthly ecological surveys of coral reefs, seagrass beds, and key fish populations using ROV footage, diver transects, and drone mapping.
  • Installing water quality monitoring stations to capture continuous data on turbidity, salinity, and dissolved oxygen.
  • Identifying areas of active degradation and proposing targeted restoration actions (e.g., artificial reef deployment, coral transplantation, or seagrass reseeding).
  • Delivering both technical datasets and public-facing reports, enabling stakeholders to use the findings for compliance, research, and outreach.
The project will bring together up to 5 service providers, with expertise in marine biology, ROV surveying, GIS mapping, and ecological restoration. Collaboration is essential — the output is not just raw data, but clear, actionable recommendations that authorities and energy companies can adopt for long-term sustainability.
