Job description

We are commissioning a large-scale salvage operation in the East China Sea following the partial sinking of a container vessel that lost cargo during a storm earlier this year. The wreck rests at approximately 75 meters depth, and significant volumes of cargo remain trapped within its forward holds. Recovery is essential both for safety of navigation and environmental protection. The scope of work includes:
  • Conducting a detailed site survey using ROVs and sonar systems to assess wreck stability and cargo conditions.
  • Deploying certified salvage divers and ROV teams to prepare cargo holds for recovery.
  • Cutting and clearing access points using underwater welding and hydraulic tools.
  • Coordinating with heavy-lift barges and surface vessels to raise large cargo units.
  • Implementing environmental safeguards to contain potential fuel leakage and minimize disturbance to marine ecosystems.
  • Delivering a final clearance report for submission to maritime authorities.
Due to the complexity and value of this project, multiple service providers (up to 9) will be engaged. Specialist teams will be required for diving, ROV operation, cutting/welding, environmental monitoring, and heavy-lift logistics. Coordination and safety management will be critical to ensure seamless execution of operations in one of the busiest shipping corridors in Asia.Deliverables must include:
  • A comprehensive wreck condition report supported by sonar and video imagery.
  • Documentation of all recovered cargo, including weights, recovery logs, and photographs.
  • An environmental monitoring report confirming compliance with Japanese and international salvage standards.
  • A final clearance certificate indicating safe navigation of the area.
The project requires providers with proven experience in multi-million-dollar salvage operations and strong references in handling complex offshore recoveries. Preference will be given to teams with prior work in deep-water salvage, wreck removals, and cargo recovery under tight regulatory oversight. This salvage operation represents a high-value opportunity for providers to demonstrate expertise at the intersection of safety, logistics, and environmental responsibility. Successful completion will restore safe passage in a critical trade route while showcasing advanced salvage engineering and teamwork.
