Job description

We are commissioning a large-scale hydrographic and seabed survey to support upcoming coastal infrastructure development along the western coast of Norway. This project requires a combination of oceanographic data collection, seabed mapping, current modeling, and environmental assessment to provide decision-makers with accurate insights before construction begins. The scope of work includes:
  • Conducting full hydrographic surveys using multibeam sonar, side-scan sonar, and sub-bottom profiling to generate high-resolution bathymetric maps.
  • Performing seabed sediment sampling and analysis to assess substrate type, pollution levels, and suitability for anchoring and construction.
  • Mapping currents, tidal flows, and sediment transport patterns to identify potential risks for long-term stability.
  • Deploying oceanographic instruments to monitor salinity, temperature, and dissolved oxygen levels over the 6-month study period.
  • Delivering integrated GIS datasets that combine bathymetric, geophysical, and environmental data.
  • Preparing a comprehensive final report with risk assessments, visualizations, and recommendations for coastal development planning.
This project will require up to 7 expert-level providers, each specializing in different aspects of the survey process. Teams will be divided into hydrographic technicians, sediment analysis specialists, oceanographers, GIS analysts, and field support divers. Collaboration and data-sharing protocols must be established early in the project to ensure a smooth workflow and timely reporting.Deliverables must include:
  • High-resolution bathymetric maps.
  • A complete environmental baseline report.
  • 3D visualization models of the seabed.
  • Current and sediment transport models with predictive scenarios.
  • Consolidated GIS datasets compatible with industry-standard platforms.
All operations must comply with Norwegian regulatory standards for marine data collection and environmental protection. Providers with prior experience in large-scale hydrographic surveys exceeding $500,000 in contract value will be given preference. This project represents a significant opportunity for survey providers to showcase technical excellence and contribute to one of Norway’s most important coastal development initiatives. The results of this survey will form the foundation for infrastructure investments that support sustainable economic growth while minimizing environmental impact.
